On February 7, 2012, Academician Geliy Zherebtsov, former Director of Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics SB Russian Academy of Sciences, visited NSSC. During the meeting with WANG Chi, Deputy Director General of NSSC, fruitful results were reached on the promising future of Russia-China cooperation.

Insightful ideas were exchanged on the possibility to set up joint stations and crucial issues for the next Russia-China Joint Meeting on Space Weather were discussed. Professor Geliy Zherebtsov passed on message that a new research division was underway in ISTP and ISTP was willing to work with Chinese colleagues. Professor Zherebtsov expressed the interest in the ISWMCP (International Space Weather Meridian Circle Program) which is initiated by NSSC. The two parties discussed the possibilities for future cooperation in ISWMCP. ISTP is devoted to studying higher latitude space weather, while NSSC has hands on experience in the research of lower latitude space weather, therefore there is a compensating role to play for both parties. Professor Zherebtsov visited the science data center and operation center of Meridian Project.
