On May 6, 2016, the 5th Review Meeting to decide the winner of CAS/COSPAR Jeoujang Jaw Award in the year of 2016 was held in Chinese Academy of Sciences. Academician HU Wenrui, chaired the review meeting and other members of the review committee include Academicians and experts in the relevant field.

In March 2016, the COSPAR Executive Bureau recommended 2 candidates after the COSPAR Bureau meeting. The aim of this meeting is to finalize the nominee for the 5th CAS/COSPAR Jeoujang Jaw Award, who will receive the award during the inaugural ceremony of the 41th COSPAR Scientific Assembly in Istanbul, Turkey.

Prof. WU Ji, Secretary General of Chinese National Committee for COSPAR, made an introduction of CAS/COSPAR Jeoujang Jaw Award and the previous recipients of the award. Brief presentations about the two candidates were given by Prof. LI Lei and Prof. GAN Weiqun. After that, the reviewers engaged in in-depth discussion from different perspectives and cast their votes.

CAS/COSPAR Jeoujang Jaw Award was jointly set up by Chinese Academy of Sciences and COSPAR, which became one of the eight COSPAR awards in 2006. The previous recipients include James L. Burch, Calvin T. Swift, Robert Lin and Martin Sweeting.

The award is bestowed to the people who have made distinguished pioneering contributions to promoting Space Research, establishing New Space Science Research Branches and founding new Exploration Programs.
