Lecturer:Dr Lee-Anne McKinnell,  the Space Science Directorate of the South African National Space Agency (SANSA)

Dr McKinnell is currently the Managing Director of the Space Science Directorate of the South African National Space Agency (SANSA). She is a Visiting Research Professor at Rhodes University and an extraordinary Professor at North West University (NWU) where she plays a role in supervising postgraduate student research. Her research areas of specialization are ionospheric physics and space weather and her PhD work was on the development of a neural network based ionospheric model for the bottomside electron density profile over Grahamstown, South Africa. Dr McKinnell maintains a number of international collaborations with scientists from the USA, Austria, Czech Republic and Argentina, and is a B3 rated scientist of the South African National Research Foundation (NRF). She has published numerous papers in peer reviewed journals, presented at many international and local conferences, and is a reviewer for 4 international journals. In her current capacity, Dr McKinnell is responsible for the management of the space science programme under SANSA which includes the development of Space Weather in South Africa.
