Laboratory of Space Information and Simulation Technology(LSIST)

Laboratory of Space Information and Simulation Technology (LSIST), Center for Space Science and Applied Research (CSSAR), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was established in 2004 with most people coming from the Payload Operation and Application Center for Chinese manned/ unmanned flight. There are four research groups and over 30 young scientists and engineers with Ph.D degree and Master Degree in our department now.

For the research group of space mission design and simulation, the main research work includes the concurrent design and simulation for space science and exploration proposal, the space mission distributed simulation technology, the space mission and space environment visualization technology. We have also established the concurrent design and simulation facility. With the concurrent design and simulation facility, we can support the assessment requirement of the space science and exploration proposal.

There are two main research areas in the research group of spacecraft design. One is the dynamics and control and simulation of the spacecraft, and the other is the CAD/CAE of the spacecraft. In the area of CAD/CAE of the spacecraft, we are aiming at the structural design technology of satellites, payloads and boom. And in the area of dynamics and control and simulation of the spacecraft, our main research work is the orbit/ attitude design and control of space mission or future space proposal. We especially focus our research work on the trajectory optimization design and control technologies for deep space missions, the formation flying technologies of small satellites, the autonomous orbit /attitude determination by using of magnetometer data, etc.

For the research group of electronics and communications, most research workis the space communication technology, the space networks, the electronics technology, and the ground testing technology, etc. We especially focus our research work on the payload integrated auto-testing, the self-management system for data receiving/recording/transfer, the digital data receiving/demodulating with low sensitivity and narrow band, the signal simulator of the deep space communication. We can design and develop the integrated testing system to support the payloads integrated test in the payload testing phase and the satellite testing phase.

For the research group of space application software design, most work is the data pre-processing (DPS). DPS system can deal with the downlink binary data automatically. The process includes dividing channel, dividing package, orbit data spelling (removing repetition), geometry location, calibration process etc, then we get the standard data productions.All the data productions is in the planetary data system (PDS) format which is established by NASA.

 

As for supporting the space missions or space proposal, our main achievements are in the following:

Shen Zhou Manned/Unmanned Flight

We have successfully supported missions of SZ-1, SZ-2, SZ-3, SZ-4, and the manned flight SZ-5. Our work includes the auto-test of payload, receiving the downlink exploration data, the monitor and control of payloads, and pre-processing the exploration data.

Double Star Project

We have successfully supported missions of TC-1 and TC-2. Our work includes the auto-test of payload, receiving the downlink exploration data, the monitor and control of payloads, and pre-processing the exploration data.

ChangE Lunar Exploration Project

We have designed and developed the data pre-process system for ChangE-1.We have successfully supported the auto-test of payloads in ChangE-1. Now we are doing the auto-test of payloads in ChangE-2.

YingHuo-1(YH-1) Mars Exploration Project

We are doing the auto-test of payloads in YH-1Mars project. We are also the monitor and control center of payloads in YingHuo-1. We are designing and developing the monitor and control center now.

Concurrent Design and Simulation for Space Project

Based on the concurrent design and simulation facility, we have given the assessment for the Formation-flying Imaging X-ray Telescope (FIX) Project and the Magnetosphere-Ionosphere- Thermosphere (MIT) coupling Exploration with Constellation. Now the assessment for the Solar Polar Orbit Radio Telescope (SPORT) project is being executed.
