The CAS Visiting Professorship for Senior International Scientists is set up to attract accomplished overseas scientists who have worked at top global universities, research institutes or multinational corporations and who wish to actively participate in a long-term collaborative relationship with CAS. The senior visiting professor is expected to serve as a visiting scholar at a CAS institute related to his/her research field for 2-12 months; participate in cutting-edge researchwork at CAS;enhance CAS’s capacity in S&T innovation; and, ingeneral, strengthen ties between CAS institutes and top global research institutes and universities. Upon the recommendation of NSSC, three renowned overseas space scientists were named to the program. They are: Prof. John D. Richardson, principal research scientist at the Kavli Center of Astrophysics and Space Science, MIT; Prof. George K. Parks, professor emeritus at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA, and senior research physicist at the Space Science Laboratory, University of California, Berkeley, CA; Dr. Falanga Maurizio, science program manager and researcher in high energy astrophysics, ISSI.
